He was banned for life by the NBA because of his racist comments in a recorded conversation. He was also fined $2.5 million dollars. I think he got what he deserved because he shouldn't have said those things. I think they were a little harsh with the money though but I guess he has a lot so it's not that much.
Write a letter to your ten-years-older-than-you-currently-are self.
Dear Shera, Hey. I am in 8th grade at Sioux Central. I am 14 years old. I just got my drivers permit on my last birthday and I'm not a very good driver. Hopefully I'm better now. I have learned a lot of things in middle school. There have been a lot of hard times but many more good ones. I love hanging out with my friends. Right now they are Danielle, Makayla, Haylee, Regan, Hannah, Kennedy, Devyn, and Leslie. This is probably weird because now I probably barely know some of them. Congratulations on finishing High School. I can't believe that you have finished. Right now I want to go to Iowa State. I wonder where I am going to college. Anyway I can't believe how old I am now. Have a great life. Why do you love your favorite movie? I love my favorite movie because it is really fun to watch and it is interesting. I can watch it over and over again and not get tired of watching it. I don't have one favorite movie. There are too many to name but they are all funny and interesting. My favorite movies have action in them and important life lessons. At least half of my favorite movies are about sports. They are motivational and make me want to do better at the sports I do. I love watching movies they are really fun and I like them. Violence: Murder
Who: Ona What: She was killed. Where: It was in the countryside on the road. On the way to the village. When: It was during the Holocaust. It was after they took the showers. Why: She was mourning the loss of her child and wouldn't get into the vehicle. She was crying and screaming. Ona wouldn't listen to the guards. How: If I was one of the other people I would try to stop them but I would be afraid that they would kill me. I would try to make her be quiet so they wouldn't shoot her. *Fact that surprised me the most.
The total number of Jewish people that died represented almost one-third of all Jewish people alive at that time. *Fact that I already knew. The most important reasoning that led Adolf Hitler execute so many people in the Holocaust, was his obsession with the idea of 'racial hygiene' - the believe that it was possible to create a 'pure' German race by selective breeding techniques applied in agriculture. *Survivor Lucille Eichengreen was born in Hamburg, Germany. She lived with her mother Sala Landau and her father Benjamin Landau. On October 27, 1938 her father was arrested for the first time but he returned later. On the same day that WWII began her father was taken again but his ashes were returned in September 1941. Lucille was 16 years old in 1941 when her regular schooling ended after she was deported to the Lodz Ghetto in Poland. She remained there for nearly four years. She arrived in Auschwitz in August of 1944 and was transferred to the work camp Dessauerufer in October. Then she was transported to the slave labor camp in Neungamme in November and December of 1944. There she cleared bombed buildings and shipyards until the long walk to Bergen Belsen in February and March of 1945 where she was finally liberated in April. If you were a color, what color would you be?
I would probably be blue because I feel used and worn down. I relate to that color because I love the color of the sky and ocean. I like most things that are blue. Sometimes I act blue when I am sad about something. I would be the color blue because I need to calm down sometimes and be calm. I might be yellow because it is bright and reminds me of happiness. I like being happy and joyful. I like to brighten peoples days. Write about a pet that used to be in your life. I used to have a fish. He was my only pet. I always wanted a dog but my parents never let me have one. They didn't even let me have a Guinea pig. But for my birthday they gave me some fish food and a tank. Then we went to the store to pick it out. I think he was a tiger fish. He was really small and skinny. He was a blueish color and had stripes. I never had a name for him. After about a year of having him I named him Bruce, from Bruce Willis off of the movie Die Hard. I named him that because I would forget to feed him and he still lived. Once I forgot to feed him for almost two weeks because we went on vacation and we came back and he was still alive. He lived for 6 years. I didn't cry because he was just a fish but he was a good pet. What Are You Good At?
I am pretty good at sports and school. I think I am good because I work hard and try my best. It's very important to me to be the best I can be at everything I do. I also really enjoy sports so that is probably a reason I am good at them because you are usually good at things you like. I am good in school because I apply myself and try. God has blessed me with a brain and being able to be athletic. I am very thankful for that. Have You Ever Interacted With the Police? I have not interacted with the police from something I have done or because I did something bad. I have probably said "Hi" to a police officer before. If state troopers count I have interacted with them a couple times. Most of those were because my mom was getting speeding tickets. Sometimes they have been nice and let her off with warnings. I have talked to Brian Beckman before and interacted with him because I know him. Other than that I haven't interacted with the police because of something bad I have ever done. Which Is More Important: Talent or Hard Work?
I think that hard work is more important than talent because if you have talent and don't work hard you still might be the best of other people but you won't be the best you can be. Why would you settle to be less than what you could be. If you have a lot of talent and can get better why wouldn't you work hard at it so you can be even better. Hard work is more important than talent because you won't always be talented at everything and hard work teaches you how to get better at things even if it is tough. It teaches you that you can't get through life the easy way all the time. What Are You Grateful For? I am grateful for my life. I am very blessed to have the life I have. I am blessed with great role models and people to look up to. I am grateful for my friends and family. It is really great how I have important people in my life that will be there for me. I am grateful for my God-given abilities. He has blessed me with a lot and I am thankful for it. Who Is Your Role Model?
I would say that my role model would probably be my sister. She is her own person. She doesn't care what other people thinks of her but she loves people. Everyone likes her because she is nice to everyone and she is unique in her own way. She is my role model because I want to be able to not care what people think of me. I want to be the nice and caring person she is. What Are You Afraid Of? I am afraid of not doing my best. I want to do the best and be the best I can be. This makes me afraid of losing because sometimes if I lose I think I did not do the best I could have done. I am afraid of being embarrassed of losing which sometimes puts too much pressure on me. It makes me really nervous but my fear of losing motivates me to do the best I can. Should Students Be Required to Take Drug Tests?
I think they should be required to take drug tests because they shouldn't be taking drugs because it is against the law. I understand that the schools wouldn't want students to be on drugs when they are going to school. It would probably be a safer place in school that there weren't drug people there because it would influence the other things in a bad way. Do You Participate in Class? Yes I do participate most of the time. I like to participate because I want to get the credit for it. I do not want to lose points for not just saying something that wouldn't take very long. Sometimes I am scared to say something wrong but I would rather be embarrassed and get all the credit so I will get a good grade. I want to be the best I can be but I don't want to take away the talking of other people because that isn't very good. What Is Your Personal Credo?
"Use your smile to change the world, don't let the world change your smile." How Do You Personalize the Things You’re Required to Have at School? I don't really personalize anything. Sometimes I put book covers on the books and I pick out school supplies that I like. I don't have any stickers on my computer. |
